Lower Methow

Are you interesting in purchasing Pipestone Canyon real estate? On the South end of the Methow Valley sits the Lower Methow, the southernmost portal from Seattle. According to Data USA, this humble town is home to just 49 residents, a number that hasn’t fluctuated much since the birth of the town in 1899.

The Lower Methow is located about 11 miles from Pateros, 11 miles from Carlton, and another 10 or so miles from Twisp. The central location of the town is beneficial in Okanogan County and residents here profit from the convenience. The quaint community sits on the edge of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, giving locals access to a plethora of outdoor recreation and activities. Whether you’re interested in fly fishing along the Methow River or hiking through the scenic Cascades, there is a trail nearby waiting.

Residents here have easy access to healthcare facilities as well. The nearest hospital, the Three Rivers Hospital, is located a short drive down the highway (approx. 11 miles according to City Data) in Brewster, WA. The Harmony Healthcare Nursing Center also resides in Brewster, providing healthcare to elderly in Okanogan County and in the lower Methow. The short proximity becomes extremely beneficial during the winter months when the roads are icy, making travel more dangerous and difficult. If you have an emergency, there is much easier access to you here in Lower Methow, versus anywhere else in the Valley. The Methow is also much closer to larger metropolitan areas such as Wenatchee, Chelan, and Seattle.

Locals of the Lower Methow are warm and welcoming, and at the same time mindful and generous with respect. The town began in 1899 as a mining camp, shortly after the Squaw Creek Mining Boom came to end. A gentleman named W.A. Bolinger decided to move his general store to the Lower Methow, marking the birth of the town. The Bolinger homestead still stands there today as apart of the neighborhood, and home to one of the residents in the Methow.

Residents with children usually commute to Pateros for school. The Pateros School district is the #1 safest school district in all of Washington State, according to Niche, and has an excellent student to teacher ratio of 13:1. Some locals choose to commute to the Methow Valley for school, with options available in Twisp, as well as farther down the road near Winthrop, WA. Regardless of where your child ends up, you can have peace of mind knowing that they are in a safe place. All of the surrounding school districts are highly rated and have had positive feedback from the community.
